Xavier Veilhan, French plastic artist, has designed the project “Studio Venezia” to represent France at the 57th Venice Biennale of contemporary art, from May 13th to November 26th 2017. The French Pavilion of the Venice Biennale, a building designed in 1912 by Fraust Finzi, has been transformed by Xavier Veilhan in an installation which will welcome an assembly of international professional musicians, for the whole duration of the Biennale. This musical installation adds a second layer to the French Pavilion architecture and creates a realm of wood and fabric where “the floor, walls and ceiling collide with one another”. The artist conceives this artwork as the first step of an international tour, in partnership with the French Institute. According to the artist : “The pavilion merges visual arts and music, bringing back to life past references, from the Bauhaus to the experiments at Black Mountain College, to the Station to Station by Doug Aitken”.
