Wondering what to do in Berlin this summer ? L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui has selected this week a trio of events for Berliners and travelers who are visiting the city. To celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and China, the Aedes Arhitecture Forum highlights the career of Chinese architect Liu Jiakun.

The Aedes Architecture Forum, an exhibition gallery and architectural editor founded in 1980 in Berlin by Kristin Feireiss and Hans-Jürgen Commerell, has set up for this summer the exhibition “Now and Here – Chengdu”. From July 22nd to August 31st 2017 this exhibition will present a selection of works by Liu Jiaun, whose office is located in Chengdu.

Liu Jiakun creates a contemporary architecture which integrates traditional elements of Chinese culture, and local vernacular craftsmanship respecting the project’s context. The Aedes Architecture Forum exhibition will focus on his projects located in Chengdu, and will therefore offer a lesson in the urban history of the Sichuan province’s capital.

Amongst the selected projects by the Aedes Architecture Forum, visitors will discover the Luyeyuan Buddhist Sculpture Museum of 2002 ; the Hu Huishan Memorial of 2009, which honors the memory of a student who died in the Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008 ; and the Suzhou Imperial Kiln Ruins Park of 2016.
