Cersaie 2024: bringing architects and manufacturers together

From September 23 to 27, 2024, the world's architects are invited to Bologna, Italy, to explore the fairways of Cersaie, the International Fair for Ceramics and Bathroom Furnishings.

The 2024 edition of the International Fair for Ceramics and Bathroom Furnishings will be taking place in Bologna from 23 to 27 September 2024, with the aim of promoting Italy’s industrial expertise in ceramics and creating a space where architects and professionals from the sector can share ideas and information.
This year, the organisation wants to emphasise the versatility of ceramic materials and their ability to find their place in the entire architectural spectrum: from domestic interiors to public spaces, from the smallest finishing detail to the urban scale. For centuries, and for many years to come, ceramics will meet the technical requirements of both bathrooms and building façades. And the innovations developed by manufacturers in the sector mean that we can continue to go even further.

A central square to bring architects and manufacturers together
Architect Dario Curatolo has been commissioned to design the show’s central scenography – a square inspired by traditional Bolognese piazze. This 1,000 sq. m. space – which is designed to be totally recyclable and reusable – will be a meeting place, a place to get together and share information. It includes an amphitheatre for up to 200 people, a library dedicated to design and a radio studio for recording and broadcasting live information throughout the show. The space will also host the ADI (Association for Industrial Design), which this year will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the ADI Prize at Cersaie, as well as the institutional office of Confindustria Ceramica, the leading ambassador for the Italian ceramics industry.

Last but not least, Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto, Pritzker Prize 2024 laureate, will be offering fair visitors a Lectio Magistralis (Magisterial Lecture) on Thursday 26 September at 11am. It has become a tradition for Cersaie to invite the laureates of the Pritzker Prize, but this year, for the first time, the prize-awarded architect is taking part in the very year he was nominated.
