Maison & Objet Projets. 3 questions to Jean-Philippe Nuel
Coming from a family of architects, Jean-Philippe Nuel graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts, and is today a reference in luxury interior architecture. His studio, composed by 30 employees, works on many kinds of projects, such as hotels, housing, headquarters and cruise ships.
Could you present us your activity?
Trained as an architect, I mainly realize interior architecture projects, product design, as well as ephemeral architectures, such as scenography projects designed for Maison & Objet. I work at my office with thirty employees, and today my activity is known mainly thanks to a certain number of hotel projects: the Molitor and the Hotel Le Cinq in Paris, the Hôtel Dieu in Marseille and in Lyon… We design some service buildings as well: the Merial headquarters in Lyon, the project Aquarel at Issy-les-Moulineaux, and the Alto Tower at La Défense, the Paris business district.
You have been collaborating with Concrete LCDA, which is participating to this year’s Maison & Objets Projets edition. Could you tell us about your relationship and the beginning of your collaboration?
I first worked with Concrete LCDA on the Tour Voltaire rehabilitation project at La Défense, where we wanted to shape the reception area following the high-rise buildings regulations. The concrete provided us a great creative freedom and a real material effect, still allowing us to respect the regulations constraints. We hence continued the collaboration, and I’ve created two new models for Concrete LCDA’s decorative panels collection, named Panbeton. We are currently working on a third model.
Why did you choose Concrete LCDA among all the other brands you could have worked with?
I naturally chose to work with Concrete LCDA, as it combines creativity and technical knowledge, two things that unfortunately rarely come together. I have also been motivated by the possibility to work with a young, united and competent team, with whom we have a real human relationship.
